Australian Microbial Resources Research Network
The concept of an Australian Microbial Resources Research Network was catalysed by the Australian Research Council ARC Research Network Scheme in 2003. This website was established with the support of ARC Research Network Seed Funding as part of the report on the concept of an Australian Microbial Resources Research Network.
The Network builds on the activities of a number of special interest groups and individuals in various biological disciplines who maintain Australian microbial resources in a number of institutional and research culture collections. These groups often worked in isolation without a means to share knowledge, resources, and expertise.
The Network thus aims to develop links between Australian and with international researchers working on microbial diversity, taxonomy, identification, and ecology of microorganisms. It aims to foster collaborative biodiscovery and utilisation of Australian microbial resources in biotechnology and innovative bioindustries through an Australian Microbial Resources Study (AMRS) research program.
To overcome these obstacles and to encourage efficiency and progress through collaboration, the Network aims to develop integrated access to Australian microbial resources including microbial cultures, bioinformation, and research expertise through the development of a network of Australian Collections of Microorganisms (ACM) and an Australian Microbial Resources Information Network (AMRIN).
This Network website aims to provide a national focus point for research on Australian microbial diversity and resources. The website will facilitate interaction and access to researchers and resources, overcoming the current fragmented state of research activity, and promote the development of research programs to accelerate the discovery of Australia's unique microbial diversity for science, industry and education.
